SUNY Farmingdale - Nold Hall
BRB worked with Farmingdale State College, part of the SUNY system, to renovate Nold Hall.
Nold Hall, a 100,000 sf athletics building, built in 1972, has been transformed from a utilitarian facility into the center for athletics and fitness at Farmingdale State. Locker rooms built to fulfill physical education curriculum requirements of the past have been renovated as team rooms. An under-used pool has been filled in and the space will accommodate a multi-use gymnasium. A spartan weight room has been relocated, expanded, and re-envisioned as a welcoming, highly visible, daylit fitness center. Connections to the outdoors, connections between spaces, and wayfinding have been improved with increased transparency and the bold use of color and graphics. A new display system and lighting has transformed the large but under-used lobby space into a Hall of Fame and gathering space that celebrates the history of athletics at Farmingdale State.
